SMED, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, being island nation, is blessed with numerous aquatic resources and therefore, a significant number of Small & Medium entrepreneurs are involved in the different spheres of the fisheries sector. Project SMED will be organizing an international Fisheries and Aquatic resources Exhibition later in the year. Thus it was a timely action to invite the relevant Cabinet Minister to elaborate the plethora of opportunities available in the fisheries sector for the SMEs and to initiate a public private dialog. This forum offered a chance for the large gathering of persons from the private sector to get an insight into the Fisheries Ministries plans to: modernize the industry, market strategies, meeting the modern day demands, environmental challenges etc. At the same time the relevant ministerial officials got to know several initiatives taken by the private sector to develop the hitherto unexplored areas such as Seaweeds, marine minerals, exclusive Yacht & sailing boat building and so on.
The Country Representative of the FNF Sri Lanka, Sagarica Delgoda, introduced the Speaker, spoke about FNF’s role in promoting free market principles through its activities in Sri Lanka and moderated the sessions.
