Regulatory Reforms in India

The present situation of regulations encouraged people to resort to illegal ways of operating as the costs of compliance were far too high. The well-meant economic reforms would have little meaning without reforms in the regulatory framework of the country.

There was consensus amongst the speakers, including the Principal Secretary and Financial Commissioner, Punjab Government, Mr. B.C. Gupta that regulatory reforms needed a review and wherever required, they should be dealt away with.

The programme was attended by prominent thinkers, activists, academics and youth of Chandigarh. It was well-covered by the local media, both print and electronic. Those present appreciated the discussions and the programme. Friedrich Naumann Stiftung für die Freiheit was recognized for its contributions in the areas of policy reforms.
