Liberals counteract the current challenges posed to the Political Economy and Security of the country

during Sixth International Academy for Leadership (IAF) Alumni meeting 19-20 July in Islamabad

On this occasion Ms. Birgit Lamm dwelled upon the contribution of the IAF Alumni networks active in different countries of the world for the cause of liberal values and democracy. Senator Rukhsana Zuberi contextualized the current socio-economic challenges in terms of the growing insecurity in the country amongst the investors and the common citizens asking the liberal pressure groups to play their role in diffusing uncertainty prevailing in the society.

These IAF Alumni who have established a network, FreedomGate Pakistan dissected the current problems the country is faced with and asserted to minimize the deficit of democracy; controlling the rising tide of extremism and restoration of rule of law in the country. The rising commercialization of extremism and violence has mutilated the human values and pushed the liberal values of tolerance, pluralism and harmony in the background. The FreedomGaters also devised some practical strategies to propagate such liberal values and denounce terrorism through media.

To continue with the successful take off of replicating IAF seminars since last year, FreedomGate Pakistan looks forward to developing a seminar plan 2009 on the basis of the discussions during the Alumni Meeting. According to the 2008 planning five seminars have already been conducted while three are scheduled to be organized in the last quarter of the year. These seminars help to upsurge the liberal genus amongst the political class in Pakistan.
