Dr. Lenin a social activist based in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh, has put up vehement resistance against the caste system through various social activities, including the redressing the torture victims and their families in five Northern States with 50,000 members participating in the various rehabilitation programmes, by catering education centers in 45 villages all these has been struggle to towards dignity of the Dalit human right’s. He founded People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) to work on child labour free village.

Lenin's work marks a shift in the Indian human rights movement, which has been reluctant to address injustices in the name of caste as a fundamental human rights issue. He is one of only a handful of activists to declare that such discrimination goes against democratic principles by promoting inequality. By working from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh–one of the most traditional, conservative, and segregated regions in India–Lenin demonstrates his resolve.

Recognition by the international community of Dr. Lenin’s work is indeed the recognition for the millions whose hopes and aspirations rest on his slender shoulders.

One of the most eminent recipients of this prize has been Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Gwangju Prize for Human Rights was established to celebrate the spirit of the May 18 Gwangju Uprising by recognizing both individuals, groups or institutions in Korea and abroad that have contributed in promoting and advancing human rights, democracy and peace in their work. The prize is awarded by the citizens of Gwangju in the spirit of solidarity and gratitude from those whom they have received help in their struggle for democratization and search for truth. It is hoped that through this award the spirit and message of the May 18 will be immortalized in the hearts and mind of humankind.
