SMED: Launching SME Policy Reforms to face the Challenges in the SAARC Region

The publication is edited by Dr. Wilbert Gooneratne, the Director of the Centre for Development & Research (CDR) and Dr. S. Hirashima, Emeritus Professor of International Studies of the Meiji-Gakuin University of Japan. Dr. Zaid Bakht, Research Director of the Bangladesh Institute for Development contributed the Chapter on Bangladesh. Mr. Karma Galay, Senior Researcher of the Centre for Bhutan Studies presents Bhutan’s case. Professor G. K. Chadha former vice Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and Member of the Prime Ministers Council, details out the Policy Initiatives, Growth and Future Outlook in India. In addition, Dr. M. R. Narayana, Professor of Economics from Bangalore presents the case of the Karnataka State in India. Dr. Khalid Aftab, Vice Chancellor of the GC University in Lahore Pakistan talks of the Issues and Remedies concerning SME sector in Pakistan. Sri Lanka’s case is presented by Dr. Sirimal Abeyratne, Senior Lecturers of the Department of Economics, University of Colombo, who argues the necessity of integrating the SME sector with the Market.
The publication was presented to the relevant authorities in Sri Lanka, and it expected that the necessary steps will be taken to initiate a dialogue with the policy makers in the other SAARC countries too.
